On October 18 our Adults Between Youth and Senior (ABYS) had their annual car rally. The challenge was simple, follow the directions to take a tour of our lovely area and hopefully not get lost. An extra twist this year was to take at least 5 pictures along the way, they could be of interesting sights along the route or other creative ideas at places where it seemed ideal to stop and take a picture.
It was a fun afternoon adventure. At times it may have been silly but if you stop and think about it, there’s actually a lesson we can learn.
See, the participants in the car rally were given a set of directions but these aren’t the directions you normally give. There were no street names, no landmarks a distance to drive and a direction to turn. That’s how it is walking with God sometimes. We have no idea where we’re going and sometimes we don’t even know where we are but we trust God’s plan and eventually we will reach our destination. The route the car rally participants took was not direct but in taking some less well traveled roads they got to see some beautiful views that they otherwise would likely never have seen. In the same way God doesn’t always take us on a direct path because we need to learn, to grow, to see and understand more about how wonderful God really is.
A simple car rally adventure is also an interesting metaphor for this journey of life we’re on.
